Nitric oxide (NO) is considered an important intra- and inter-cellular signaling molecule involved in many biological processes. Despite NO’s universally-accepted role in many physiological and pathological processes, advances in this field have been limited by insufficient NO analytical tools. The short half-life of NO in blood, the transnitrosylation between species and complex blood or plasma matrix effects have all hampered progress in this field. This has limited the validation of NO or of its primary bioavailable forms as disease markers.
Accord Biosciences’ NO sensor systems utilizes proprietary technology that allows researchers to accurately and reproducibly quantify native bioavailable NO levels, including “free” NO gas and S-nitrosothiols, in biological fluids, in particular plasma and blood.
This technology would be the first available NO sensor for use in blood or plasma with high sensitivity and selectivity, negligible plasma interferences, capacity for rapid processing with minimal operator handling, and incorporation of technology elements that can cost-effectively be translated into a later clinical diagnostic product for central lab or point-of-care settings.
